2012 Alumni Weekend

On February 3 and 4, more than 150 SAB alumni spanning seven decades attended the annual Alumni Weekend. Festivities began on Friday evening with old friends and classmates gathering for cocktails to toast Suki Schorer on her 40th anniversary year of teaching at SAB. Many of the guests continued the evening at a NYCB performance of Allegro Brillante, Russian Seasons, Zakouski and Stravinsky Violin Concerto. On Saturday morning, alumni enjoyed an Open House where they watched intermediate and advanced classes and were able to take a behind-the-scenes tour of the Residence Hall.

By all counts, the weekend was a big success, bringing good cheer and high spirits to the School. From professional dancers, to proud parents, to business leaders, the range of alumni and the scope of their accomplishments since SAB are impressive. Stay tuned for the next alumni event!

2011 Workshop Dress Rehearsal & Cocktails*

Alumni who performed the ballets being performed in the 2011 Workshop performances (listed below) were invited to reminisce and celebrate their experience. Following the dress rehearsal in the Peter Jay Sharp Theater, alumni were invited up to the 5th floor of the Rose Building for cocktails and mingling. Videos of their past Workshop performances were also on display.

Allegro Brillante (last performed 1998)
Circus Polka (last performed 2008)
Les Gentilhommes (last performed 2007)
Who Cares? (last performed 1998)

2011 Alumni Open House

On Friday and Saturday, February 4 and 5, some 80 alumni joined SAB faculty and staff for the annual Alumni Weekend. The pre-performance cocktail party on Friday night celebrated faculty member Susan Pilarre’s 25th yeah teaching at SAB. Suzy began studying at the School at age 11, and after a successful career with NYCB, she returned to the School in 1986 to teach. A generation of dancers has been influenced by Suzy’s passion, commitment, and energy, and SAB looks forward to having her teach for many more years.

Following Suzy’s toast, guests crossed the plaza for a mixed repertory program at New York City Ballet: Balanchine’s Mozartiana, Martin’s The Magic Flute, featuring 18 young SAB students, and Susan Stroman’s For the Love of Duke. On Saturday, SAB opened its doors for alumni to enjoy breakfast and class observations, including a co-ed advanced class taught by Peter Martins.

*Please note only alumni ages 21 and older are invited to events that serve alcohol.
