Trained as child at Bolshoi Ballet. Joined Bolshoi Ballet in 1949 and promoted to principal dancer in 1959. Performer, ballet master and director at Moscow Concert between 1967-75. Joined SAB faculty in 1976. Performs character roles with NYCB in George Balanchine's The Nutcracker and other repertory works.
