Auditions for 6 to 10 year olds

Children 6*, 7, 8, 9 and 10-years-old, with or without previous ballet training, are auditioned at SAB in May and September.  There is a $25 application fee for all auditions held at SAB.

SPRING 2008 AUDITIONS

Applicants must call 212-769-6600 in advance of the audition date for his or her age group to be assigned a specific audition time.  Appointments for the following May audition dates are currently being scheduled:

•  Monday, May 5, 2008 — 6 year olds* (Please note: This audition date is full as of March 26.)
•  Monday, May 12, 2008 — 6 year olds*
  

   

•  Tuesday, May 6, 2008 — 7 and 8 year olds (Please note: This audition date is full as of April 7.)
•  Tuesday, May 13, 2008 — 7 and 8 year olds

   

•  Wednesday, May 7, 2008 — 9 and 10 year olds

   

  Applicants should arrive at SAB 45 minutes prior to the assigned audition time and be prepared to spend up to 2 hours to complete the audition process.
  
  Children should bring ballet practice clothes, swimsuit or a T-shirt and shorts. Ballet slippers are not required.
  
  All applicants must show a copy of his or her birth certificate at the time of registration for the audition.
  
  * Children must be 6 years old by September 1, 2008, to enroll for the 2008-09 Winter Term
  
  PLEASE NOTE: Fall auditions may be held to fill remaining openings in classes. Openings may be limited after May auditions are complete. Information about September 2008 auditions will be posted in mid-July 2008.
  
  Classes begin mid-September for 8 to 10 year olds and in early October for 6 and 7 year olds.
  
  

   

  Community Auditions
  
  Community Auditions for girls and boys 6* to 10 years old, with or without previous ballet training, take place in May at locations around New York City, including Queens, Harlem, Bronx, Chinatown, and Brooklyn.

  Applicants should arrive at the audition site at the times listed above. Pre-registration is not required.
  
  There is no application fee for Community Auditions. The auditions are free.
  
  No previous ballet training is necessary for applicants aged 6 to 10.
  
  Children must be 6-years-old by September 1, 2008, in order to participate in the 2008 Community Auditions.
  
  Children should wear a swimsuit, leotard, or shorts and t-shirt.  Please do not wear long pants.
  
  This is an AUDITION ONLY. Classes begin in September for those accepted, and all classes are held at the School of American Ballet in Manhattan (at Lincoln Center).
  
  Beginning students are required to take 2 one-hour classes per week during the 2008-09 Winter Term.
  
  Tuition rates for the 2008-09 Winter Term will be available in May.  Tuition assistance is available.
