Curriculum

The aesthetic of George Balanchine, which emphasizes speed, musicality, control and precision guides SAB’s instruction. Classes in Ballet Technique, Variations and Pointe will be offered at the NYC Junior Session.  In addition to a daily co-ed technique class, male students will also have a daily boys-only class focusing on turns, jumps and upper body strength.  The curriculum also includes Pilates mat classes, Nutrition and Physical Therapy seminars and cultural enrichment programs.

Faculty

Members of SAB’s permanent faculty as well as guest teachers from New York City Ballet will comprise the faculty of the New York Junior Session.

Housing

Housing and transportation will not be provided for students attending the NYC Junior Session. The program is designed for local-area students or for those who are able to arrange temporary accommodations within commuting distance of SAB.

Schedule

Classes will be held Monday, June 24, through Saturday, June 29, with each level attending two ballet classes, seminars and workshops, between 10:30am and 4pm. Parents should drop students off at the School beginning at 10 am and pick students up at 4 pm.

Lunch

Students should bring a bag lunch daily for the entirety of the NY Junior Session. Students will not be permitted to leave the premises during the lunch period to purchase food and/or drink. All students must eat at the time designated for their class level on the daily schedule. SAB staff will supervise students during their lunch hours and all students will dine in the designated SAB studios. Parents are not permitted to visit the School during lunch hours.

Please note that the Rose Building’s cafeteria will be undergoing a renovation during the 2019 NY Junior Session and will not be accessible to students or parents. Due to this facility change, it is very important that students arrive each day with a bag lunch and any snacks they might need throughout the day. The School will not be able to refrigerate any bag lunches.
